The Art of Daytona: The Halifax Art Festival and Oscar Preece

November 01, 2018

Join us at historic Riverfront Park on November 3-4 for Daytona’s own Halifax Art Festival. One of the country’s most prestigious art events, it’s also the second-oldest continuous art festival in the state. 2018 marks the 56th anniversary of the festival, which attracts over 40,000 art enthusiasts and over 250 artists and craft artisans annually. Originated and presented by the Guild of the Museum of Arts and Sciences, this event is also organized and fully operated by a volunteer staff and offers work in a variety of media, including printmaking, drawing, clay, acrylics, watercolor, sculpture, and more.

Additional attractions include a student art show, live entertainment, and children’s activities. Proceeds from the Halifax Art Festival benefit the Museum of Arts and Sciences. Also, be sure to stop by the Southeast Museum of Photography to view the Nolan Preece exhibit before its ending date of November 24. Preece’s “chemical paintings” are concocted from a combination of processes involving the darkroom and photographic chemicals, resulting in the artist’s unique and fascinating images.
